These notes are a simple explanation of the rules in Victoria -

Please check Regulations in other states

If you have a 100 pin spinning wheel and tickets are sold at $1 each, you collect $100, therefore (in Victoria) the prize should be valued at between $17 and $50.   At $2, prizes increase to $34 - $100

If your wheel has 64 pins, your tickets are sold at $1, your prizes should be worth between $10.88 and $32.  At $2 a ticket, prizes move to $21.76 and $64.

If your wheel has 48 pins, tickets are $1, prizes should be between $8.16 and $24, and with $2 tickets, prizes range from $16.32 and $48.

We recommend that you choose prizes priced between 25% and 50%

that is, $25 to $50 in the first example.

We do this for two reasons.

First, the better the prizes, the easier it will be to sell tickets.  Second, if you are selling two price ranges - $1 and $2 - tickets, at 17% to 50%, there will be an overlap in prize values.

Be very careful, if you intend to sell the tickets at "$1 each or 3 for $2", that you reduce the cost of your prizes accordingly. If you should happen to sell all 100 tickets on a "3 for $2" basis, your take is reduced dramatically - to $66 instead of $100.
