GAMING NIGHTS

RUN A MILLIONAIRES' NIGHT

A Gaming night is a fun way to make money.

However, there are three things to keep in mind.

First It is illegal to gamble with or for money in Victoria outside of the Casino

Second You may need a permit - $32 in Victoria

Third You want to make money for your organisation, not send someone else home very rich.

Part of the fun of a good night out is dressing up so run a Millionaires’ night

and invite people to dress up and dream a little. Let’s pretend we are rich and glamourous just occasionally. To enhance the feeling, dress up your venue, croupiers, bar attendants and other workers to suit the occasion.

People pay an admission fee ($10, $50) and a given chips with which they can play any of the games. Every time they buy a drink or packet of chips or a chocolate, they are given extra chips.

At the end of the night, hold an auction for mystery prizes, boxed in plain boxes. The "millionaires" buy with their chips. Prizes can be valuable, or "booby" prizes. Prizes might have been donated, or can be purchased; however, be sure to keep your prize costs within a range that allows you to MAKE MONEY, which, after all, is the purpose of the evening. A liquor licence can be obtained for relatively little cost, and drinks and nibbles are further money spinners.

If you expect 100 people, and charge $10 a head, spend $250 on prizes, $50-$100 on hiring equipment and a bit more on decorations and preparations, you are guaranteed $500, before you sell nibbles and drinks. Increasing the door charge increases your profit.

A night such as this requires some planning, but it’s a lot of fun.
