Spinning Wheel Prizes

In effect, when running a spinning  wheel, you

are running a series of short sharp raffles.

Under the Bingo and Raffles Board Regulations

of  Victoria, (check Regulations for other areas)

FOR ANY RAFFLE, PRIZES SHOULD BE VALUED AT BETWEEN 17% AND 50% OF THE TAKE.

IT IS NOT THE PRICE OF THE TICKET THAT MAKES IT EASY TO SELL, BUT THE QUALITY OF THE PRIZES

PEOPLE WOULD RATHER SPEND $5 FOR SOMETHING WORTHWHILE THAN SPEND 50C TO WIN SOMETHING THEY DON'T WANT

****************************************************************

Fifty odd years ago, when Dad started this business, tickets were sold for 5cents, 10 cents or 20 cents, and prizes were valued to suit.  Unfortunately, some of our customers have one foot firmly planted in the 1950s, and want to hang on to those ticket prices - but their other foot is in this century and they expect to get prizes valued on today's standards!  Unfortunately, it cannot be done.

______________________________________________________________________________

Today, I recommend that the realistic lowest price for a ticket is $1, but consider $2 spins to be the better option with $5 spins offered throughout the day.

This table shows the price ranges recommended for various spinning wheel sizes and ticket prices.

Obviously, as tickets get dearer, prizes become more valuable, and therefore more desirable.  Would you prefer the chance to win a backpack, or a rollaboard case?  Some cheap knives, or a quality knife block?  A train set, or a Thomas the Tank train set?

For which one would you buy a ticket?

SELECTING PRIZES

When we select prizes, we keep our values to between 25% and 50%, as explained above.

In choosing lines for stock, we aim to cater for everyone. Depending on your area, the winners are likely to be grannies, mums, dads, teenagers, or kids;  well-to-do, making ends meet, or battlers;  male or female;  young, middle-aged or old.

They will have a wide range of interests and needs.  This means that the goods are not necessarily something I would take as a prize, but then I am not going to win every spin.

When we select prizes for a spinning wheel for your fete, we keep all of the above in mind. We will consider your neighbourhood and probable clientele, and will choose prizes we believe will meet their wants and needs. Depending on the wheel size and ticket price, we will include some bags, some electrical appliances, some decorative items for the home, kitchen lines, something for the garden or garage, manchester perhaps, soft toys, cars, dolls, games.

If you have particular preferences - "no balls because someone donates them", "no toys, because our clients are professionals with no kids" - we will adjust our selection to suit.
